Slightly out of Action in March-April-May

It's April and I missed March, I have a good excuse though. As you may know, I have had prostate cancer diagnosis since 1997. My psa started to elevate at a more substantial rate recently so I have elected to have radiation, which is no small feat. It involves 39 treatments at Skagit valley Hospital in Mt Vernon, WA and  5 daily trips a week from San Juan Island. The good news is that a lot of time we get to fly, the bad news is that a lot of time we have to take the ferry.

It's February

The operative word for me is get out and exercise. I purchased a fitbit (www.fitbit.com) and what a little ingeniuos device it is. It tells me how far I've walked (steps and miles), how high (flights of stairs) and how many calories I've burned. So I'm out walking thru the San Juan Island English Camp Historic Park on a daily basis and I love it. I've lost a little weight and I feel great, now if I can only keep it up.

I promise to update!

Oh, I have been so Bad! This website has languished with neglect over the past year. Dan Gillespie did such a nice job of getting me up and running and I have not reciprocated with information necessary to keep it current. All that has changed as my New Years Resolution is, among other things, to update this site monthly, in the first week of the month.

Oh No! Granny's Got the Remote! CD

It's out and available! Hooray! For those who don't know, "Oh No!, Granny's Got the Remote!" was a "Holiday" kids show that I wrote and produced with Penelope Haskew in 2011. I wrote music and lyrics of course, Penelope wrote dialogue and we both collaborated on story line. Fifty some-odd kids and their parents participated in this full-length musical produced at the San Juan Island Community Theatre in Nov. 2011. The soundtrack was created at Eclectic Ladyland Recording Studio by the original cast. It's a cute show if I do say so myself and we had some good talent all around.

UsToo, Friday Harbor Chapter

I'm happy to report that the UsTOO, Friday Harbor, WA Chapter is alive and well. We are a group that focuses on information and education of prostate cancer issues and are open to anyone who would like to hear more. We meet at the Mullis Community Center at 6:00-7:00pm on the 4th Monday of the month year-round. We are affiliated with the National organization, (www.ustoo.org), of grassroots supporters of this disease.

San Juan County Arts Council

In December, 2011, I was elected President of the San Juan County Arts Council and became past-president in Dec. 2012. This is a new organization that I helped form, starting in 2009 through a San Juan Island Community Foundation Critical Needs Task Force. We received our 501 c-3 non-profit status in Dec. ,2011 following our first election of board officers. I dedicated 2012 personally to getting the Arts Council off the ground as there is a great need and enormous potential for it in this unusual County made up exclusively of islands, and obviously separated by various bodies of water.
